New Orleans is well-known across the world as a premier destination for food, festivals, and fun. While New Orleans isn’t best known for leading a healthy, active lifestyle, there’s actually a surprising number of quality workout classes in this traditionally laid-back Southern city.

CycleBar is not your average workout. Music videos, choreography, and energizing/dynamic CycleStar Instructors take you from an everyday ride to a heart-pumping party on a bike. With energizing rides tailored to all fitness and experience levels, the low-impact, high-intensity nature of a CycleBar ride has a multitude of health benefits.

Along with burning calories and building endurance, CycleBar’s Premium Indoor Cycling™ classes also deliver cardiovascular benefits that aid weight reduction, reduce blood pressure, improve diabetes control, increase overall strength, and bolster active recovery.

CycleBar equips each bike with 4- and 6-pound body bars to use in pre-planned arm sets during the ride. In addition to working your leg muscles as you ride, you’ll rock your biceps, triceps, shoulders, lats, and core.

“Nothing is required here but a water bottle and a good attitude.”

City Surf

city surf

All of City Surf’s classes use the surfboard to create a comprehensive workout that focuses on dormant muscles. Each class harnesses the power of the surfing motion while using resistance bands that attach to the board, dumbbells, and sandbells to provide an exercise that gives you the coveted beach body.

While City Surf doesn’t actually teach you how to surf, the board uses surfer specific muscles that can only be developed while surfing, creating a long and lean physique.  You’ll see results after 3-4 weeks of regular classes, especially in your core strength and overall stamina. City Surf is suitable for all fitness levels and welcomes surfers and non-surfers alike.

Classes they offer:
Beach Body Bootcamp
Big Kahuna (strength-based)
Pipeline (barre-based)
Buddha Board (yoga-based)
City Surf Circuits
Surf + Flow
City Surf R&R (roll and recover class)

“We have an awesome community of members and we host frequent events in our large backyard.”

Orangetheory Fitness is a one hour, total body workout that encompasses endurance, strength, and power. The workouts are all built based on heart rate interval training, which is scientifically proven to help your body burn more calories up to 36 hours after each class. Everyone in class is wearing a heart rate monitor, and their results are displayed in real time on screens around the room. Each class is led by a certified coach to make sure that members aren’t over or under-training, correct form, and to provide encouragement and motivation as they lead the workout.

OTF can be scaled for any fitness level – with members ranging from 14-85+. Anyone can participate because it’s all based around an individual’s heart rate response and the coaches are there to provide modifications to scale the exercises to each person’s fitness level.

“The workouts are fun, the coaches are always present to lead the group and provide support, and the community that each studio has is pretty amazing.”

HourBlast is a fast-paced, HIIT (high-intensity interval training) workout that pushes class-goers to achieve new physical limits. Each class is an hour long and combines cardio and strength/resistance training exercises to create a fitness routine that will leave you dripping with sweat over your whole body. Luckily, Hour Blast offers classes to accommodate all fitness levels, including walking, jogging, and running options for each class. Hour Blast has a team of dedicated instructors who know how to push you to work harder, faster, and stronger while maintaining proper form.
